The expected date for the Classical Brits next year is Thursday 7th May at the Albert Hall. After a very enjoyable event this year I will be looking to attend next year also even though Hayley will not be eligible for a nomination. Tickets should be on sale from Feb/Mar onwards so if anyone else is interested in attending then watch this space! Martin EDIT by Dave: Hayley IS now eligible for a nomination - to vote for her click here (closes 1st May)

Definitely, not now on Thursday 7th May unless the dinner guests don't mind ping pong balls landing in their soup! :2fun: This date has been allocated to the Table Tennis Masters competition.

I want to go to one of these. 2009 might just be the year. I don't know what to expect, and I guess that is half of the fun.
Do you have access to the red carpet to get autographs, etc?

Hi Nicola Yes, providing you get there early enough (approx. 5.00pm onwards) the public are able to see all the artists and guests arriving, most of whom stop for photos and autographs (if you're lucky). Look at the thread for last year's Classical Brits which was attended by a large HWI contingent (Hayley attended ) and you will see a very large number of fantastic photos taken by Steve, Grant and others. Hello Nicola! I've found the thread about last year's Classical Brit Awards, but it's 52 pages long. I suggest you start at page 32 HERE. Richard

www.musicweek.com/story.asp?sectioncode=1&storycode=1037055&c=1 Classical Brits to honour Carreras
15:07 | Friday February 27, 2009
Legendary tenor José Carreras is to receive the lifetime achievement award at the 2009 Classical Brit Awards.
Carreras will perform at the event, which takes place on May 14 at the Royal Albert Hall, as will Katherine Jenkins. Myleene Klass returns as host for the second year.
Chairman of the Classical Brit Awards Committee, UCJ managing director, Dickon Stainer and vice chairman, Avie Records director, Barry McCann jointly comment, “We are delighted that Maestro Carreras has accepted our invitation to receive the prestigious lifetime achievement award in this, our 10th anniversary year. It is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest tenors of our times and one who has befriended British audiences for so many years.”
"I was very happy and honoured to hear that The Classical Brit Awards had offered me this distinction,” adds Carreras. “I am particularly pleased that the ceremony takes place in London which is a city that has meant so much to me in my career over many years.”

Thanks for the information, Natalie! I moved your posts to this thread to prevent duplicate discussion. If Hayley wins an award, we will move this thread to the 'Awards and Celebration' board. Best Wishes, Richard

How do we know Hayley isn't nominated for anything? And is she going?
Well, won't she be touring in NZ then, anyway? We don't know the dates yet, but that is a possibility.

Hi Libby, We don't yet know if Hayley will be nominated, or even if she will perform. What Martin meant to say, I suspect, is that none of Hayley's albums are likely to be eligible to be nominated for "Album of the Year". This is because in all previous years, the album had to be first released in the previous calendar year (2008 in this case) and had to be an original album, not a compilation of old tracks like River of Dreams. So no Hayley album is likely to be eligible. Hayley has attended as a guest of her record company in at least one previous year when she had no nomination or performance (I was there that year) so if she's in London at the time, she may well be invited again. Yes, it is possible that she will be out of the UK at the time but I suspect that the date would be kept free until all the nominations and performances have been advised to Hayley's management: it is too good a date to risk missing, unless you have to. Cheers, Dave

Thanks for that information, Dave. I wonder when they'll announce the nominees? I'm hoping she could be female artist of the year, but it seems like they usually choose newer artists for awards like that.

Just booked Block H (same as last year), row 1 seat 31 (sorry Karsten!).
Please note that you are likely to get a better seat by booking over the telphone rather than online.
Anyone else coming?
Martin
