Go to any rugby or football match and you'll spot fans of all ages singing their teams' theme songs and offering rowdy chants of encouragement to the players. It's a nice tradition and it shouldn't be limited to the world of sport.
We need to have a theme song for HWI members to sing before (or after) Hayley concerts to add to the overall fun. Not only would it identify us to eachother and create solidarity, it would intrigue other concertgoers and bring lots of them into our ranks.
I hereby suggest a theme song we can all share, sung to the tune of "Bicycle Built For Two":
Hayley, Hayley Heavenly voice so true, We post daily All of our pics of you. Music's "Pop and Opera" marriage Our forums won't disparage, And we will greet Your fans so neat, We're your superfan website crew!
That's just one suggestion, mind you. Please feel free to add your own songs or chants! I'm sure before long we'll have quite a list to work with!
I don't know the tune of "Bicycle Built For Two", but what you wrote is very nice.
Greetings from Portugal, Paulo Correia
Hi Paulo, it's the song sung by the computer "HAL" as it was failing, in the classic cult film "2001 - A Space Odyssey". It is called "Daisy" in the film but some of the non-English sound tracks used a different tune (sadly, because "Daisy" is in the original book).
I'm sure you will find an example of it on Youtube... OK here it is:
Thank you for your clarification, and thank you for the link.
This is quite funny, because this movie brings some memories.
I saw this movie when I was in my early teens, with my brother and my parents (despite the fact the movie was rated at that time here in Portugal above 18 years old), and I hated it because I didn't understand nothing (my favorite sci-fi series at that time was Space 1999), but the main music theme is unforgettable, very powerful, is the one I associate better with "2001: A Space Odyssey".
I saw it again some time ago, and I really liked a lot, the soundtrack, the photography, Stanley Kubrick was indeed a GENIUS.
...it's the song sung by the computer "HAL" as it was failing, in the classic cult film "2001 - A Space Odyssey ...
Well that works nicely, because HWI famously had its own computer failure (F.I.R.E.S) based in Houston, Texas (where all the real space odysseys are monitored by NASA). But if that song doesn't grab you, maybe another will ... a theme song called "HWI", sung to the tune of the Blue Danube Waltz, also from 2001 - A Space Odyssey:
H-W-I ... I, I, I, I, From Jersey to Skye ... Skye, Skye, Skye, Skye, Our members will fly-y-y-y... to a Hayley venue anywhere.
Hayley Westenra ... ra, ra, ra, ra, Busked in a plaZA ... za, za, za za Now she is a sta-a-a-AR... of the very highest magnitude!
This one is done to the tune of Pokarekare Ana.....
Nice one, Howard! I cooked up another little ditty myself, this one can be sung to G & S's "Major General":
I am the very model of a fan of Hayley Westenra, I tell my friends both near and far she brings out all the best in ya. She knows the Queen of England, and has sung for every president From Washington to Tokyo, her voice is never hesitant She's very well acquainted, too, with music as a therapy, She's helping education with her "Bikes for Ghana" charity. Her fans were once a few of us but now we are a plethora... The very proud and loyal fans of awesome Hayley Westenra!
Thanks Steve. I am not familar with 'Major General', but I am with your first song, rhymes very well.
But, by the way YOU set this up, this is suppose to be a theme song for HWI. In both of your songs you do not mention the 'I' part at all??? And I just realized it by your last song. Or I would have wrote mine differently, but I will keep it as is, I am sure someone else will come up with different words. So try it Steve!

Howard, apparently you didn't catch my use of it (HWI) in the second song I posted. In any case, the best theme songs don't always mention things by name -- for instance, you won't find the words "United States of America" anywhere in its own national anthem! A good theme song for HWI doesn't have to say "HWI" in its lyrics so long as it announces our common intention of supporting Hayley.
My suggestion that we employ a theme song is obviously a hard sell in here, because it borders on silliness. But take a good look at anyone who's been properly "Hayleywowed": the expressions on their faces are priceless. I remember my jaw hitting the floor the first time I heard her and getting weak at the knees when I first got her autograph -- talk about sillly!
Good question, Katie. If you think of the answer, do let us know!
Actually, it's no good asking us. We had enough trouble trying to think up a name for Hayley Westenra International! We came up with the "International" bit easily enough but we couldn't think what to put in front of it! J/K.
