Hello folks,
If your looking for a good place to eat, the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow right at the heart of the city where there are various places to eat:
- Just around the corner (that is, West of the main entrance by about 50 metres) is a pub called Lauders which serves some good quality pub food such as typical Western burger meals, some select dishes.
- The Concert Hall itself is on Buchanan St.. If you travel Southwards down Buchanan St. and turn East into George Square, there is another pub called The Counting House (the exterior looks like an old bank as it was a bank prior to being a pub). Similar to Lauders, serves good quality pub food.
- Sauchiehall St., a road which forms a right angle going Westwards from Buchanan St, with the Royal Concert Hall at the right angle, is a long, very populated street of Glasgow. There are many assorted restaurants there of various cuisines including oriental. Of the quality of these places, I cannot speak, I have not been.
However, about 1 mile West of the Hall down Sauchiehall St there is an excellent Chinese restaurant called Loon Fung. High quality food although some familiarity with Chinese dishes would help in selecting what you want.
- Additionally, the Concert Hall itself is a mere stonesthrow (well, about 50 metres from) Buchanan St. subway station. An adajacent station called Cowcaddens is right beside the Glasgow Chinatown (which is no way as flamboyant and nice as other Chinatowns in Manchester, London or New York for example, but serves the Chinese community well near Cowcaddens).
There is a Chinese resturant there of high quality. It can be busy especially if it is hosting a wedding party, but the food is equally good to the other restaurant I mentioned.
- Literally around the corner is a restraunt/bar called Walkabout: serves Australian themed pub food. SImilar to the other pubs I mentioned apart from the Australian touch to its dishes. The food is also good quality. You cannot miss it, its right besides the massive CIneworld multiplex cinema known as the tallest cinema in Scotland or something similar, and opposite a theatre.
- Aside from all this, you have your usual KFCs, Pizza Huts, McDonalds and Burger KIngs, Starbucks and all that giraffe everywhere.
- If you go anywhere for food though in Glasgow, be aware of when the football matches are in play: some of you are from the UK and will understand what I mean. Public transport can be mobbed sometime and you'l always get that one chap who feels really offended by the smile on your face. But hey, welcome to Glasgow. =)
- Don't feed the chavs.
I'm sure my directions have utterly and hopelessly confused you, so if your interested in any of these places feel free to ask. Oh, and I don't own any of these restarants, honest! =)
