I have not been idle tonight (and yes I did celebrate the New Year - Happy New Year (again!) everyone!)
UK Classical Artist Chart for 2006 - with sales estimates.
01 Fron Male Voice Choir - Voices Of The Valley ( 379,000 )
02 Katherine Jenkins - Serenade ( 350,000 )
03 Russell Watson - The Voice-The Ultimate Collection ( 232,000 )
04 All Angels - All Angels ( 201,000 )
05 Hayley Westenra - Odyssey Special Edition ( 85,400 )
06 Katherine Jenkins - Living A Dream ( 74,300 )
07 Katherine Jenkins - Second Nature ( 49,100 )
08 Katherine Jenkins - Premiere ( 44,200 )
09 Sting - Songs From The Labyrinth ( 41,800 )
10 Aled Jones - You Raise Me Up-The Best Of ( 41,000 )
11 Sarah Brightman - Classics-The Best Of ( 36,400 )
12 Andrea Bocelli - Aria - The Opera Album ( 35,900 )
13 Karl Jenkins - The Armed Man-A Mass for Peace ( 30,000 )
14 Choirboys - The Choirboys ( 28,600 )
15 Bryn Terfel - Simple Gifts ( 19,400 )
----------------------------------------------------------------
16 Bryn Terfel - Tutto Mozart ( 17,400 )
17 Paul McCartney - Ecce Cor meum ( 14,200 )
18 Karl Jenkins & Adiemus - The Essential Collection ( 13,600 )
19 Classic FM Presents - Alfie Boe ( 11,700 )
20 Libera - Angel Voices ( 9,800 )
New releases in the year are in bold type. The top 15 is pretty secure in position and sales estimates and is derived from the Classic FM Chart of 2006, updated for the last two weeks of the year which were not included by Classic FM. It's possible that I could have missed an album or two from earlier in the year below no. 15... there's a bit more checking still to do... so yell if you think I have. The main change from the order of the Classic FM chart of the year is that is that Fron overtook Katherine at the finish line to grab the top spot.
I reckon four classical albums selling over 200,000 in the same year is pretty good and having Hayley (and All Angels ) in the top 5 is pretty cool too. Remember, Hayley's album is a re-release not the original and in the UK it's sold around 85% of what the original sold without ever being involved in the Christmas market. This is amazing and I think it bodes well for Hayley's next album which is due to be released around the same time of year. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
Credits: Classic FM for their chart of the year; a few weekly figures from Music Week, the official chart game and the ever-helpful folks at Haven. Estimates and analysis by me..
I will try to get hold of the US end of year charts soon!
Cheers, Dave
