Hi everyone, I have been comparing how well Hayley's UK album releases have done at Amazon in their top 100 rankings, starting three weeks before the week of each release - and the first few weeks of release (bracketed). These may be a rough guide as to how well Paradiso will do initially, if is stocked by all the supermarkets. This Amazon Top 100 information appears in their Bestsellers/Bestseller Archive section. Album (Release Date) 3 prerelease weeks (1st 4 weeks of release) Best in official chart
Pure (15 Sep 2003): out, out, 71 (23, 12, 19, 24) Official chart: no. 7
Odyssey 1 (26 Sep 2005): out, out, 22 (17, 28, 35, 50) Official chart: no. 10
Odyssey 2 (10 Apr 2006): out, out, 51 (39, 63, out, 76) Official chart: no. 16
Treasure (26 Feb 2007): out, 80, 31 (11, 21, 30, 69) Official chart: no. 9
River Of Dreams (27 October 2008): out, out, 94, (40, 71, 81, 98) Official chart: no. 24
Winter Magic (30 Nov 2009): out (out) Official chart: no. 95 [not sold by supermarkets]
Paradiso (29 Aug 2011): 89, 58, 9 (??) So this is the first time Hayley has ever figured on the Amazon UK weekly top 100 bestsellers list dated three weeks before the release date. It is currently no. 93 in their "hourly" list (having reached no. 76 earlier today) and it should start climbing in earnest when the TV and radio promo starts, tomorrow. As you can see, Hayley always peaks slightly higher in the official charts than in the Amazon weekly charts. Cheers, Dave NOTE: "out" means "not in the Amazon UK weekly top 100"UPDATED 30 Aug 2011

I don't understand any of that. What does the "out, out" mean? And I'm stil confused about what all the numbers represent, except for the official chart ones.

Pure (15 Sep 2003): out, out, 71 (23, 12, 19, 24) Official chart: no. 7 The 'out', 'out' means 'out of chart' for the third and second weeks before release, at #71 on the week before release. #23 represents the position on the week of release, and #12 at the second, #19 third week, etc. Here is the page on Amazon UK from the week of Sept. 15, 2003, showing Pure at #23 at its week of release... www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/2003-09-15/music/ref=zg_bsar_cal_mo#2And this is Amazon's chart for this week....note Paradiso at #89, at two weeks to release date... www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/2011-08-08/music/ref=zg_bsar_cal_mo#5

Hi everyone,
Time for an update in the unofficial charts thread, I think (to save cluttering up the main Paradiso (UK) Album thread).
Before today, Paradiso had peaked at about #44 overall ranking at Amazon UK. This occurred in the days following Hayley's appearance on ITV1's "Lorraine" on 17th August.
For the last week Paradiso has been stuck in the range from about #50 to #80. The local radio tour didn't appear to make much difference but it will have helped to keep it up there, well inside the overall top 100, around #10 in the pre-releases, and around #5 in the pre-releases for next week only.
Since 'Lorraine' there have been some major magazine articles and a few newpaper articles too, all helping to maintain interest. But of course, the major push has now started, with a TV advert yesterday (which did push it up at about #56 overall by last night) and then, BBC Breakfast this morning which we knew would have a major impact.
But I did not expect it to have as large an impact as it has done so far, Paradiso shooting up to #5 overall by noon today, and currently it is #3 overall (and of course #1 in all the pre-release charts). These are hourly figures of course, so they can be volatile and we shouldn't expect these heights to be maintained beyond today unless there is a lot of peak time TV advertising now.
So we must hope that Decca are encouraged by today's events and that they will indeed put their money where their mouth is - and book more adverts!
Cheers, Dave

WOW, that's fantastic. I am absolutely thrilled for Hayley.
as the song goes
"It's a h**l of a start, it can be made into a monster if we all pull together as a team".

Hi Dave, Thanks for that info. I think now I have a better understanding of how those charts work, what effects them greatly, and what only effects them slightly. Here's hoping, like you said, that Decca puts their money where their mouth is, and promotes the heck out of Paradiso. Matt

I hope they push the promotion in the USA too, If it does really well here then it should convince them to concentrate on USA- paradiso should at least go Platinum in the UK I think/hope!!

Well Paradiso ended its pre-order listings at #2 at Amazon UK and at #8 in their overall chart. None of the other online sources listed it in a high pre-release position. The first unofficial post-release charts to come out are as follows (hopefully some of them will change): Amazon UK has it at #8 tonight HMV online has it at #26 currently. Tesco online hasn't updated yet but features it prominently on their New Releases pageAsda online has it at #104 (fools!) Sainsburys has it at #15 (and spells it wrong ) Play.com hasn't updated (but tends to throw classical CDs out into the classical charts only ). I hope the bricks and mortar stores do better than the online lot (Amazon excepted) have done so far! UK shoppers, please report what the major stores are doing in this thread, thanks! Dave

Matt Yes, GMA is the best one she could do, since that's probably the biggest out of the ones you mentioned. Today show would be great, too. Hayley has been on both before, but on the Today show it was only to sing for a skater. Not quite a Pure promotion as her appearance on GMA was. And it would be nice if Hayley could be on Live with Regis & Kelly before Regis retires, which is in November. The show will probably suffer after that, if they don't find a good replacement. Kelly's good, but I don't think it would be as good with just her.

UK shoppers, please report what the major stores are doing in this thread, thanks! Dave Just one thing to add, Paradiso is #38 on the iTunes Top Albums list at the moment. This is good, as not many Hayley fans tend to do downloads so you'd expect it to be lower at iTunes than on the physical and the combined CD charts. Dave
