Hi Richard, I bet Hayley's been getting excited about this for weeks!!! She may also have been out and about doing practical things, such as what I did yesterday in the big Tesco Extra hypermarket. Read on... As I was browsing their CD section (again!) I noticed a couple of their "CDs of the week" slots were empty and had no description or price labels on them. Hayley's two allocated slots (at no. 9) were fairly full and her single CD of the week slot was down to the last CD. It was very quiet (after 11 pm!) so I did some furtive redistribution of the Odyssey stocks, not only into Hayley's own slot but into the other two, empty slots, too!. Katie & Jamie had far too many slots allocated anyway So now, Odyssey is spread neatly across the display shelves in five slots, and at last has her fair share of prominent "CD of the week" spaces. That should sell a few more copies of Odyssey there today!!! Cheers, Dave

Sounds as though you've found your true vocation in life, Dave! Any chance you could do a nationwide tour? I would have done the same thing in W H Smith today but they only had two copies..... and I bought one of those! Roger

I finally made it to Tescos today and found that quite a few copies of Odyssey had moved off the shelves today. Whatever the sales figures are now, you can add another 2 copies to them. And there'll be more passing through my hands very soon. Cheers, Keith.

Visited the big (HUGE) Sainsburys superstore at Southampton Hedge End this evening and was shocked to find it still out of stock of Odyssey - this has been the case for at least two full days now and if this is general at Sainsburys, it may hit Odyssey's weekly chart position significantly (they sell a LOT of CDs). [glow=red,2,300]I am LIVID.[/glow] I will phone them tomorrow morning to complain... almost half the week's sales occur on Friday and Saturday, this will be a disgrace if none are in stock by Friday morning.
It might be a good idea for all UK people to phone their nearest Sainsbury's superstore Friday morning, to check their stock situation and create merry hell if they are out of stock.
Despite this, Odyssey was holding at number 9 in the official midweek charts after three day's sales - but that could change.

Exactly the same situation at Sainsburys in Horsham, Dave. I will check it out tomorrow and give then what for if I have to. Roger

Roger I've just phoned Sainsburys and have been assuured they now have stocks of Odyssey but haven't yet put them on the shelves - they came in yesterday and will be going on the shelves some time today. What a shambles. Grrrr!!!

I checked the Horsham Sainsburys again this lunchtime and found they had FIVE on the shelves. I bought two of them. By the time I looked in again four hours later, they had all been sold.
It is great that they are selling so well but, yet again, they failed to anticipate the demand.

According to the Classic FM schedule, 'Bridal Ballad' is due to be played tomorrow morning at 11:16. This is during the weekly chart countdown and the timing (which may vary) strongly indicates that Odyssey is within the top ten. At the risk of making a complete fool of myself, I will now make a prediction as to its exact position. I'm quite optimistic about it and will say.... Number 4Let's hope I'm not too far out! Aaaargh! I've just remembered, I won't even be here to listen to it! Roger

Roger Hi Roger, I think you forgot, Bridal Ballad is also on Pure (Special Edition)... which is at number 9 this week . Odyssey will enter the Classic FM chart NEXT week (if it's eligible) and they can throw whatever they want at it but they won't keep it off the top spot. Cheers, Dave

Roger Sainsbury's Fareham are sold out but the bigger one at Hedge end has finally got 15 on the shelf after being out of stock for over three days. Sainsburys really have made a mess of their Odyssey stocking, because they guessed its likely chart positon (between 20 and 37) like a bunch of amateurs. Asda (Walmart) appear to have sold twelve this week - half of their initial stock, with their busiest day to come tomorrow. They got it right, as did Tesco, who also have plenty left in stock. Katie Melua is selling like hot cakes everywhere - she's a dead cert for number one - by a mile and a half.

Here is my final supermarket update before we get the real chart/sales figures tomorrow The big Sainsburys (that was out of stock until Friday) had 15 copies on the shelf on Friday evening and only 6 copies this (Saturday) evening. Nine sold in one day... not bad for a so-called no. 20 album (no. 37 in smaller Sainsburys stores). Just think how many lost sales there will have been this week across the entire Country, due to Sainsbury's widespread "out of stock" incompetence. Hopefully, this will benefit Hayley's chart position and sales *next week*. Dave

Hi folks,
I have just had an email from Steve giving me the first week's sales figures for Odyssey.
Remembering that Pure sold 19,600 copies in it's first week to break the record for the highest first week sales for a debut album, Odyssey has sold more than 25,000 copies in the same period of time. And that places it at no. 10 in the chart.
Congratulations Hayley, long may Odyssey ride the crest of the wave.
Cheers, Keith.

This from Virgin.net Music Top stories Melua claims top album spot Katie Melua has gone straight to the top of the UK album chart with her latest record 'Piece By Piece'. Melua knocks David Gray's 'Life In Slow Motion' down to number two after two weeks at the top, while fellow balladeer James Blunt is still riding high with 'Back To Bedlam' at number three. Jazz star Jamie Cullum entered at number four with 'Catching Tales' while Hayley Westenra's 'Odyssey' entered at number 10. However, it was a disappointing week for both Sean Paul and The Corrs with their new albums failing to make the top 10 - entering at 11 and 14 respectively. The UK top 10 albums for w/c October 3: 1. Katie Melua - Piece By Piece 2. David Gray - Life In Slow Motion 3. James Blunt - Back To Bedlam 4. Jamie Cullum - Catching Tales 5. KT Tunstall - Eye To The Telescope 6. Bon Jovi - Have A Nice Day 7. Barbra Streisand - Guilty Too 8. Kanye West - Late Registration 9. Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway 10. Hayley Westenra - Odyssey Roger (No 11! )

I did a quick tour of the CD stores in town today.
W H Smith have her at number 11. She is #6 in MVC and (up from 20 to) 15 in Sainsburys who still didn't have any at lunchtime but there were three there this evening.
