Hi all, On December 11, Hayley appeared on ITV Christmas Mania in the UK, performing "Silent Night". One day later (just a few hours ago as I write this) Hayley performed two songs on a Christmas special from the Royal Albert Hall on BBC One Songs of Praise. Solo she performed "Mary did you know?" and in duet with Aled Jones she performed .... "Silent Night". I think the "Silent Night" on Songs of Praise is superior to the one on ITV - undoubtedly also because of the extra dimension of the duet - I also think that Hayley is in better form on Songs of Praise. Apart from the crystal purity of her voice, later on in the song she appears to try and go below Aled - and with success! The videos can be downloaded from the HWMultimedia page, the 2004 section of groups.msn.com/RussellWatsonHayleyWestenraThe ITV video with thanks to Dave, Gerrit

UK: new chart issued today, Sunday Hayley re-enters the top 75 main album chart at no. 60, for the first time in almost 9 months (March 2004). Pure (SE) will remain at no. 3 in the Classical Artist chart and at no. 5 in next Saturday's Classic FM chart as the albums above her continued to sell very well indeed (above Hayley, they are identical to last week).

The annual New Zealand RIANZ New Zealand chart has just been released.
Hayley has finished up on 7, with a total of 35 weeks spent in the weekly charts. (Last year she was at 11, with a total of 21 weeks in the charts.)
Yulia was just a few places lower, on 13, with a total of .... 13 weeks in the weekly charts.
By the way, the annual chart does not include this week's weekly chart.

Hayley's current chart positions Friday 24th December 2004. Updated Monday(UK)

' Germany Top 100 Albums -- (--) 73 3 ' AMAZING GRACEJapan Internat. Singles 5 (3) 1 46 At end of Sept 2004[/PRE] Notes UK Pure was up from 84 to 60 as shown - its first appearance in the UK Top 75 for nearly 9 months. It is down a bit to no.73 in the new chart announced Sunday 26th December but this is not shown above. It will probably remain at no. 3 in the new Classical Artist Chart and close to 5 in the Classic FM chart - but details are not yet available. US Pure has again failed to enter the Billboard 200 (Crossover position not yet known). NZ There will be no further NZ charts issued until mid January - it's their annual 3 week shut-down. Incidentally, the recently issued NZ "Chart of the Year" is based on points and NOT on actual sales, so the positions can be very misleading. For example, in 2003 it had "Pure" at number 11 yet "Pure" was the biggest selling album in NZ that year, by a mile. It's a very strange way of compiling an annual chart in this day and age and the press release issued with it is also grossly misleading. The actual chart on the RIANZ website does, however, state the facts correctly... thank goodness! Germany Pure is not in the top 100 there but it's worth mentioning a remarkable feat achieved by Anna Netrebko there, this week. She is a true Opera singer (not crossover) and a few months ago reached no. 18 in the German POP album chart with her 2nd album of arias, "Sempre Libera". It eventually dropped out of the top 100 for 4 weeks (though remaining top of the classical chart). However... a couple of weeks ago, it re-entered the pop chart and this week, it rocketed from no. 60 to no. 15 (fifteen) thereby outperforming every pop album in the chart by a mile. For comparison, if that had happened to Hayley here in the UK, her weekly sales would have gone up from about 19,000 to over 70,000. A remarkable feat by a remarkable opera singer - who can't even make the classical charts in the UK! Well not yet, anyway...

Hayley's current chart positions Friday 31st December 2004. With Japan Update!
All charts except Japan cover CD sales ending Saturday last week. Japan details are now updated to mid November. Blue entries - In latest chart. Red entries - Out of latest chart.
--Position-- Total Country Chart TW (LW) High Weeks Comments PUREUnited States Billboard 200 Album -- (--) 70 6 United States Classical Crossover 4 (*4) 2 38 *Last week's position is an estimate. United States Internet Album Sales -- (--) 5 2 Canada Classical top 15 -- (--) 3 23 ' New Zealand Pop Albums t40 -- (--) 1 56 Australia HMV Classical t10 -- (--) 1 45 Japan Top 300 Albums -- (--) 27 24 At mid Nov 2004.

' Germany Top 100 Albums -- (--) 73 3 ' AMAZING GRACEJapan Internat. Singles 8 (6) 1 53 Updated (mid Nov) See notes![/PRE] Notes UK Pure remains in the UK top 75 and probably sold 15 - 20,000 for the second week running (Christmas!). Pure SE sales should now be about 50,000 and with the original Pure probably sat around 700,000, that may mean three quarters of a million genuine across-the-counter sales for Pure to date, in the UK . Japan I finally got some more updates on the Japan International singles chart and yes, Hayley's done it! With the chart dated 7th November 2004, "Amazing Grace" completed 53 consecutive weeks in the Japan International Singles top ten. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif NZ Oh, theres a chart after all this week (thanks Gerrit!). No Hayley in it, though.
US In the Billboard end of year charts (based on sales from mid November to mid November) Hayley is no. 6 artist in the Classical Crossover chart and "Pure" is the no. 6 album. That's with 7 and a half months' sales included. Most of the artists above Hayley had more than one album in the chart and most of the albums above "Pure" had a full 12 months of sales, so in both charts, no. 6 is better than it looks.
And finally... don't forget UK fans, Classic FM's Chart of the Year will be broadcast on New Year's Day between 9 am and (I assume) 12 noon. I have no information about it... but if you want a prediction, I reckon Katherine Jenkins will be the year's best selling artist and her "Second Nature" album the best selling album. Hayley? Probably somewhere in the middle of the top 10 with "Pure" - and with "Pure" Special Edition also in the top 20. It will be a few places higher if they decide to combine the sales (grrr!!!) so, with no new album out this year, it should still be a pretty good result for Hayley!

UK Classic FM Chart of 2004For anyone who didn't hear it, here are the best selling classical CDs of 2004 in the UK: 1) Katherine Jenkins - Second Nature 2) Compilation - The No. 1 Classical album 2005 * 3) Aled Jones - Christmas Album * 4) Hayley - Pure (original version) * 5) Compilation - Classic FM - Relax & Escape 6) Howard Shore - Lord of the Rings, ROTK 7) Compilation - The no. 1 Classical Album 2004 * 8) Katherine Jenkins - Premiere 9) Compilation - Classical Chillout Platinum 10) Compilation - The no. 1 Opera Album 2004 * 11) Amici Forever - Opera Band ... 20) Hayley - Pure (Special Edition) * Hayley features on SIX of those albums , those marked * - and it's an excellent result, slightly better than I anticipated. If they had combined the sales for Pure, I think it may have been no. 1 (as Mark Goodier suggested on the chart show) or more likely, no. 2 for the year. I will try to calculate the actual sales for the top 4, including both versions of Pure, in a few days time. Strictly speaking, there's another week's sales to be added for 2004. Incidentally, as I write, Pure (SE) is the top classical album at Amazon UK even though they've raised the price fom £9.99 to £13.99. It bounces around a bit but that's the highest I've seen it there for at least 9 months!

New UK charts Sunday January 2nd
These are the strangest looking charts for a long time, with 22 re-entries in the top 75 album chart. The classical albums were mostly pushed out because of this, with only Katherine Jenkins remaining in the top 75 pop chart and she is down by 35 places to 74th.
However... look at the top of the new Classical Artist Chart:
TW (LW) Artist - Album 1 (1) KATHERINE JENKINS - SECOND NATURE 2 (3) HAYLEY WESTENRA - PURE 3 (RE) LUCIANO PAVAROTTI - TI ADORO 4 (2) ALED JONES - THE CHRISTMAS ALBUM 5 (RE) HAYLEY WESTENRA - PURE 6 (6) KATHERINE JENKINS - PREMIERE That's no misprint - Pure really is in the top 5 TWICE! It would surely be at no. 1 if the sales were combined. And where did Pavarotti come from? I hope that he and Aled don't mind being the filling between a double-layered sandwich of Hayley and Katherine! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
Next week's Classic FM chart is hard to predict this time. Pure (SE) could possibly be as high as no. 2 there, too as the compilations have all crashed this week - and it's quite possible that Pure will be in the top 10 twice there, too. That should cause even more head scratching from Mark Goodier. I love it!

Singles 8 (6) 1 53 Updated (mid Nov)[/PRE] Notes UK Pure SE remains in the UK pop 200 but can't quite make no. 1 in the Classical Artist chart. It did indeed drop by 92 places in the pop chart... all classical albums had a sales crash last week. Aled Jones crashed by over 153 places - right out of the chart! UK retail sales for Pure in 2004 were 101,000 for Pure and roughly 50,000 for the Special Edition (combined total to date 730,000) but the peak sales occurred at different times of the year so it wouldn't have done much better in the actual charts if sales had been combined - except of course for THIS week! US Any impact from Hayley's Ice Show appearance won't appear in the US chart until next week. NZ Theres another NZ chart this week, no gaps this year! Still no Hayley in it, though.

Overall, Hayley sold 174,500 CDs in Japan in the year to the end of November, which beats the UK and comes close to the US (although different year end dates complicate the comparison). Total sales for Amazing Grace are, of course, over 100,000. Japan is an even harder market for foreigners to break into than the US - look who is below Hayley! and this is a FANTASTIC performance! Many thanks to Mario in Japan for the information
