Hi guys,
The following main page has appeared on Hayley's official website www.hayleywestenra.com and I will post it here as it looks like it's temporary. There is also a short announcement about it in the official forum by Forum Administrator.
Hayley Westenra
Treasure
I come from a musical family and it is one with a real sense of history.
My forefathers were on the maiden voyage from Ireland to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1850. My grandmother used to sit me on her knee and sing songs like 'Danny Boy' from as early as I can remember and each one had a story of its own. A singer herself in her earlier days, she has always been a never ending source of songs and she traveled round the country picking up new songs to perform. It's this legacy of music that she's been passing down to me since my childhood.
'One Fine Day' is perhaps the most beautiful aria in the world. Whilst originally from Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, it became a popular song in New Zealand and it's that interpretation which was the inspiration for my recording of it here.
Then there's the traditional Maori 'I Para Ra', that speaks to me directly as someone who grew up surrounded by Maori culture in New Zealand. Just as you don't have to be Maori to appreciate the timeless beauty of this song, you also don't have to be a regular in church to be moved by the calming serenity of 'Abide With Me'.
New music has to be written, new songs created , otherwise we are robbing the future of a past and I've included some new songs on my album which I have written with people I've met on my travels around the world. I love the idea that in years to come, songs that I have sung and maybe even some that I have helped to create might get passed down through generations of families until they too become a part of history.
New album and full site coming soon
UK release - February 26th
US Release - Celtic Treasure - March 13th
As you can see, it gives the name and release dates (as images) of the UK and US versions of the new album but they can be discussed in the respective threads that already exist.
This thread is mainly to discuss the forthcoming changes to Hayley's official website - let's see if we like what they do!
Cheers, Dave
