[This probably isn't the right board to post in; feel free to move.] Hello HWI-ers! I was just wondering, what's the difference between the News Discussions board and the Media board? You can't really discuss Hayley news without involving media articles and interviews. Likewise, basically every media appearance has some news story attatched to it. So how to we know where to post? I'm confused... and I'm sure all of you are too, now! Oksy

Hello Oksana! The "In the Media" board will contain news about Hayley that we find from newspapers, TV, etc. Now, I think of the "News discussions" board as mostly news about Hayley that we learn ourselves. This news may be from Bedlam Management, or even from Hayley herself. For instance, news re Hayley and her new flat, and her upcoming new book! Then again, there is news there from newspapers also. But please do not let that stop you from creating a thread! Take care, Joe

Hi Oksy, You raise a very interesting point. In fact, I thought the same as you and, many months ago, I checked through every topic on News and Discussion with the view to moving each one to another board and closing it. The majority could be moved to Media with the odd one or two going elsewhere. However, I then found the two threads about Hayley's visits to Alfred Salter School which certainly were not media events. Although Hayley sang one song, they could not be called concerts. I didn't want to put them in Miscellaneous because they were important events for the school, for Hayley, her charities, for HWI and indeed, for Stuart. The Miscellaneous board somehow seems relatively trivial. I came to the conclusion that News and Discussion was exactly the right place and so the board remained intact. However, those two threads have now been moved to the newly created Charity board (as one event was for UNICEF and the other for WEN). Because of that, I mentioned the posibity of closing News and Discussion to Richard when I saw him last week. Having said all that, Joe is also right in that news emanating from Bedlam Management isn't media in the normal sense. But, if Bedlam ask us to publish anything, that makes HWI their media outlet and so we *could* argue that the Media board is appropriate. On balance, I am inclined to believe that closing the News and Discussion board would be beneficial and I think we need to look into the possibility further. I will do so shortly. If anyone has any views, please post them here. Roger

Hi Roger & Joe! Thanks for your replies. I was thinking: how about merging the best of both worlds and making a "Hayley News and Media"-type board? Then there's really no question where and what to post. Just a suggestion. Oksy

Hi Roger and Oksana Might we go one step further and separate/sort the news by two years? E.G. a board "Hayley News and Media 2007" then a sub-board "Hayley News and Media 2006-2005" etc. It might be a bit over the top. Just a thought Joe

Hi Joe,
That is an interesting thought to which I don't yet know the answer! My gut feeling is that, in years to come, it will make it harder to locate a particular thread because we won't remember in which year it was started. I will take a closer look at News & Discussion in the next few days and come back to you.
Roger
