A funny thing happened on the way to the forum….. or, at least, on the way out of it.
According to the Info Centre, my latest post was timed at 21.38.56 but, on the line below, it said the current time was 22.40.05. Yet I viewed these details within a minute of making the post. That can only mean that the first time is in GMT whereas the second is BST. Strange! Is this anything to do with the fact that we have recently altered the clocks? And does it mean that, when we alter them the other way in October, I will be able to read a message an hour BEFORE anybody posts it?! Roger

Well, you're getting one anyway. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThe time shown for messages posted on the forum is controlled by the software operating on the server. This server is hosted in the USA. There is an element in each member's profile which allows them to set the time difference to suit their own location. (I have corrected this now by the way). The time read-out should now be pretty near correct. The time shown in the info centre is achieved by a different method. The code for the info centre is not drawn from the server, but from a different server, and was written to draw the time from the viewer's browser. This means that it will always read the correct time for everyone, no matter where in the world they are. See. Told you it was simple.

Hello Keith and Roger, I'm going to throw a spanner into the works! As you know, British Summer Time started last Sunday, so our clocks in the UK have gone forward an hour. What you may not know is that Daylight Saving Time in the USA doesn't begin until next Sunday, so this week our clocks are 6 hours ahead of New York, but next week they will be 5 hours ahead as usual. The good news is, we both put our clocks back an hour on the same day, Sunday 30th October 2005. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifTalking of dates, there are now only 11 days to go to Hayley's 18th Birthday on 10th April. Bye for now, Richard Norrington, Human Encyclopedia, HWI Forum. P.S. Roger, you seem to have posted this topic twice! I haven't got the cheek to delete the extra one posted by a fellow GM, so I'll just point it out and leave it to you! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
