Hi everyone, Here's an interesting article about yesterday's photocall. Hayley has confirmed that she's going to sing one of the Bond themes! and a night-time parachute jump by the Red Devils and the Black Knights. With 2008 marking a century since the birth of James Bond creator and former Sandhurst cadet Ian Fleming, event producer Major Sir Michael Parker explained that 007 seemed the perfect theme for this year’s show. "I came up with the idea of doing a big event in Sandhurst to raise money and apart from anything else I rather like the idea of blowing Sandhurst up," he joked. "It’s going to be great fun. People can come and have a picnic and have a marvellous evening and at the same time raise some much needed money for the Army Benevolent Fund. "With all the people who have been fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, our needs in the future are going to be considerable so it’s very important we raise some money now to help them. "The idea is to have great fun, listen to some marvellous music, see some fantastic projections up on the building and have all the excitement of the fireworks." New Zealand soprano Hayley Westenra said: "I was invited to be part of the event and I seized the opportunity.
"It’s a fantastic event that’s raising money for a great cause and it’s going to be amazing. I’m aware the 2006 event was huge but this year is going to be even bigger I’m told.
"There’s the Bond theme to the show which should be a lot of fun as well. I’m going to be singing one of the Bond themes." Lance Bombardier Rick Bishop made an impressive entrance to the preview, even taking a near miss with watching photographers in his stride. "It was good. It was a little bit lower than we’re used to and I did actually ask the ground crew to move all the reporters off to the side, but it was fine," he said. "It was a little bit windy but that’s better because it gives you a bit of a slower landing. "There’s a couple of night jumps for the actual event so I’ll be one of the display jumpers for that. It’s going to be pretty spectacular and the whole team’s looking forward to the event." Music on Fire 2008 will take place on September 18, 19 and 20 at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy. Standard adult tickets are priced at £29 and are available through Ticketmaster on 0844 847 1657 or at http://www.musiconfire.com.
Stephany
I hope that doesn't mean that she is only doing the one song! She is the only woman singer there (Teatro and Jonathan Ansell are evidently the other singers) so that may give bond fans an idea which song or songs she is likely to sing. I don't know that much about the soundtracks on the films myself.

Well, maybe they've finally decided to let Hayley sing the theme song of Quantum of Solace... Tin

Classical singing group Teatro has pulled out of these concerts and will be replaced by Jonathan Ansell. Perhaps a duet with Hayley will be added to get the audience on fire as well as the music!

Hello everyone, This just gets better - see this from the Mail online today: Hayley plus one of my favourite comedy performers ever, a fireworks spectacular and more, all in the same show for £29 - wow! But I wish i knew if Hayley would be singing more than just one or two songs. Reminder: The promo video (showing the 2006 event) is well worth watching, if you haven't seen it before: Music on Fire 2008 promo videoDave

Thanks Dave, the promo has got me very excited! Both James and I are going to the Friday date. I hadn't realised how big an event and venue it is so I do think that our chances of meeting up with Hayley afterwards look very slim. Martin

Hi one and all.
You sure do realise how active this site is when you try and catch up on what you have missed, especially when you used to be a reasonably regular caller--that means at least two or three times in a week!
Ah well. hoping I am at last beginning to get my life running round me again! So, I am booked in for Friday. Only standard tickets are available on any night now. I have also decided to stay over at a Premier which means no food so I have no idea about timings or arrangements. I have had a moment of pining realising how many intended performances I had intended to attend but haven't, now timing is moving so fast she'll be home for Christmas before I next sneeze!
So, current arrangements are Sandhurst but only secondary ranking with Hayley. The main motivation is that it clearly is quite an event, so fireworks the real motivator there, but then family nostalgia. My female line has roots in that area. My father was a squaddy but took up the clarinet. This introduced him to officer mess dances. He thought he'd rather like to dance than play. His chance came when the RMP (Royal Military Police) became a corps in its own right with its own officers instead of simply providing red cap thugs to locations and was accepted. So he had a unique distinction of being both ex Kneller Hall (Army Music College) and exSandhurst! Squaddie to Major (RMP), then following on through the Civil Service.
Just reading through this thread. Our girl really is multi-photogenic. In those poses for the advance publicity she would have made a good Avenger!
Well, that has caught me up with this week's show. Now to get my life from now until Christmas once more round me instead of missing out on events to other diktats.

I spoke to Jonathan about this event after the Mikado on Saturday and he will be singing a couple of songs plus a duet with Hayley so I expect she will be doing the same I understand from the Music on Fire site that Teatro are only performing on Saturday so perhaps the others will sing more Thursday and Friday - but as I am going Thursday I can only hope! If any of you master photographers are going the JA OF would very much appreciate a few pics as I'm a writer - so will promise to do you a full review on Friday Also do you know about the Festival of Remembrance - can't find a thread but don't want to start another one if there is one somewhere?? Di.

Hi All I'm back from a very enjoyable evening at the "Music on Fire" concert at the Sandhurst Military Academy in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund. Hayley sang three songs "Pokarekara Ana", "Whispering Hope" and, for the James Bond themed section "Nobody Does it Better". She also sang the duet with Jonathan Ansell "Amigos Para Siempre".
The concert was a magnificent production of integrated music, fireworks and pyrotechnics. Unfortunately, if I have to level one criticism of the evening it is that it was the least "intimate" concert I have ever attended. The show was a highly scripted production and there was no interaction allowed between performers and audience (which was in excess of ten thousand!). This must have been very unusual for Hayley and it was particulary disappointing for James and me.
Anyway, more to come later including the scanned programme.
