Does anyone else agree that Hayley looks much younger and more "girl next door" in the soundcheck pictures and every inch the star during the performance? Hi James, I agree James, but is it not more the Casual look V's Dressing up to 'go out' look. i.e Most young women often do the same and can look vastly different. Best Wishes, Graham

Oh, I can't agree with you more, Graham. Look at the difference of when i met her first - in her everyday casual outfit - and when i met at her at her concert - dressed up and all. So so different. I was even shocked by the difference. So yes, i would totally agree. Mind you, I look different too. Dori

Best Wishes, Graham Yes, the difference is clear to see. She has a stage persona which appears as she performs with all the accompanying paraphernalia & musicians. But, make no mistake, during the 2 sound checks that Marianne & I were privileged to watch, Hayley was completely in charge. Very sweetly, very lovingly but, most definitely dominating proceedings. We heard her say once: "Its not possible!!" with reference to what one of her musicians was suggesting. No hesitation, no apology....BANG. She automatically assumes leadership & I think you'd follow her anywhere. Graeme

Hi James, I have to agree... I don't really think Hayley even needs any makeup at all... she looks just great without it. It reminds me of the pictures we have seen from a few years back when she was in school which is kind of cool I think... Of course with makeup she looks just fantastic too... I do wonder if all the curling and straightening is bad for hair however....(I'm a guy so know so little about such things . Is Sophie doing any singing these days? Peter Graeme, Your pictures are simply wonderful and I had to download several of them. Thanks for sharing them with us and I hope there are more to come (can't wait for Stuart's!). Does anyone else agree that Hayley looks much younger and more "girl next door" in the soundcheck pictures and every inch the star during the performance? (OK, I know most of us wish she really did live next door, imagine listening to the singing practice every day! ) Best wishes, James

Hi Graeme and everyone She has a stage persona which appears as she performs with all the accompanying paraphernalia & musicians. I noticed this the very first time I saw her. Hayley's stage presence is incredible and I think it's quoted in "The World At Her Feet" that she walks onto a stage and immediately owns it. Consequently, when I met her after that performance, when she had changed into jeans and a sweater and after I had waited with heart pounding and legs shaking, she really was "Just Hayley from Christchurch NZ!" We noticed that at Hurtwood Park, in amongst the senior members of a major orchestra, yet within seconds she was in command and, the beauty of it is, no one ever seems to resent her doing it. That's reminded me of something that happened with Mark and I at Beverley last year. We had been hanging around the Minster hoping to see Hayley arrive. The sound people were setting up and I asked one of them if he knew what time Hayley was expected. During the ensuing chat, it came out that he had never worked with Hayley before and didn't know what to expect. I wasn't sure how to respond, but I remember saying something like "Oh! She's amazing, she knows exactly what she wants" I hope I was right and the guy wasn't disappointed! Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant and others, I think we are talking about two different things. 1) Hayley's appearance. 2) Her presence/manner.
I thought James original post was to do with her appearance, Graeme then carried on to say that even in casual dress (sound check) Hayley can still be 'be in command' as she is when in performance.
I think Grant is now saying that after a performance, back in casual gear, she reverts back to a 'girl next door manner' which brings us back full circle to James original post.
Hope I have got it correct.
Best wishes, Graham

Time to add some more photos to this thread. Thanks to those who have already posted some great pictures. Waipara is a pretty area north of Christchurch. Not the spectacular vistas of Quenstown but vinyards and rolling hills. Here's the competition again! Hayley joins Dave at the end of the first half. Stuart

Hi Graham, I guess I was just getting at the fact that with everything Hayley has achieved, the length of time she has been around and the maturity she seems to display, sometimes we forget how young she still is (unlike any other 20 year old I've ever met). Hi Stuart, Welcome home, I'm sure I speak for everyine when I say we've been waiting to see your pictures although Graeme, Ross, Tim et al have been doing a great job for us so far. James

Hi Stuart,
Brilliant pics,
In 1046 reply # 176 top you caught Hayley's smiling eyes as she saw you snapping. Well done.
Shots of Fiona are very characteristic of her too. Lovely.
