Quote:Hi And my last dissatisfaction is the font of the title. Why they used such a font? I think it looks not very well. My first impression of the fonts of “Hayley Westenra”-CD and “My gift to you”-CD was very good. There are the fonts of Hayley’a name at both CD’s the same. Pure is different and now an other version of fonts again – why? The fonts are very important for the identification of a person, CD etc. Sometimes a font is a trademark. When somebody use the name of the artist on a cover then you can not every time change the fonts of it.

This is rather irrelevant, but I was doing a research project on Calgary, and look what I found:

The same (or a very similar) font!

Hi Someone,
That is remarkably observant of you, especially when Lothar's comment was made six months ago! You are right though, the "H" especially is remarkably similar.
Good luck with the Calgary project!

Just a comment on the title. `Odyssey' originally refers to the Homeric epic about the return of Odysseus after the Trojan War, as a couple of people have commented. But the word has developed into a more general sense of `homecoming' - as for example in Arthur C. Clarke's `2001, a Space Odyssey.'
I think the idea behind the title may be the suggestion that this is Hayley's homecoming. Having got her international career going with Pure, she's now consolidating that by firmly finding herself and establishing herself.
But it seems perhaps the idea behind the title was a bit too esoteric, if that's what was intended.
BTW I really like the font that was used. And I wonder whether the `wrong' shadows really are mistakes? Maybe they serve the purpose of bringing Hayley out from the background without having to blur the horizon. The sea and the sense of distance are pretty important in a CD called `Odyssey.'

Can't we think of anything more serious than the format of "aitches" in "Hayley" on recent album covers
This thread is more esoteric than the title "Odyssey" itself.

Hehe, it is! Album artwork and titling don't usually interest me much but they are certainly legitimate subjects for discussion - and on-topic, too!

Hi Gerrit,
I think the artwork, including the titling, of an album is highly important and therefore deserve a position on this board. I am disappointed that you consider it necessary to criticise the discussion.

Hi Roger,
As so often happens - something is in your thoughts as a bit tongue-in-cheek, but once it is put in words, the thought that was in your mind apparently doesn't come across .
I didn't mean to come across as criticising the discussion - I tried to convey the thought that perhaps this is a discussion we should not take too seriously.
Ehh - I won't say more about this - otherwise I may even start taking my own comments too seriously .

Now I'm a bit confused. I think i read on one of her interviews that she took the photo in really cold weather on a real beach...was it taken in a studio or on the beach? Or perhaps they took a picture on the beach but later decided to use a different background?

Hi all, I just discovered this topic about the cover of Odyssey. Gerhard Simanke (Universal Music) explains why they choose this one in particular in the following article. Best wishes, Stephany
Quote:Rising star By Niki Bruce 29 July 2005 The Cairns Post Copyright 2005 News Ltd. All Rights Reserved
International singing star Hayley Westenra has given herself a birthday present - a new album. The disc, to be called Odyssey, features a duet with Andrea Bocelli, the blind Italian tenor with whom she performed in New Zealand last year and her first songwriting credit. Odyssey is Westenra s second international release and the fifth album of the teenager s career.
The album title and a change to a more adult image was inspired by Westenra s recent 18th birthday. "The whole idea was that she was older, more mature and moving on into her adult career," Gerhard Simanke, head of promotions at Westenra's New Zealand record company, Universal Music, said.
"It s a much more mature album this time and she s really moved ahead from what she did on Pure."
Pure, Westenra s first international release, is the biggest selling New Zealand album, with 175,000 copies sold. It also topped the British classical chart.
