I actually think Eternal sounds like a name Hayley would choose for her album. If you think about the meaning of 'eternal', it means forever or endless. I personally think that the title links well with both, Odyssey and Pure!

Welcome on board, Dori. I hope you find the enthusiastic Hayley support and camaraderie of her friends you were expecting.

I wonder if 'Eternal' was one of the alternative titles in the 'heated' debate over the title that took place (Hayley's own description of the title-choosing process). This possibility arose earlier for discussion under the '3rd International CD' thread.

Whereas 'Treasure' has the advantage of one word and is clear-cut, 'Eternal' can have other connotations which might be regarded as 'unfortunate', such as 'eternal rest' and possibly parodied as 'laid to rest'.

This is why I suggested 'Eternally Yours' which keeps the 'eternal' concept but more closely defines the intention. The disadvantage is that that title is two words but it helps to counter possible 'plays' and 'innuendos' that may be made. Unfortunately, when you are looking at titles, you have to think of the warped ways in which they might be misused or played upon.

Hi Dori,Peter
i think the Cd would have been good named Eternal, but will be ok as Treasure if this is indeed the final name, the delay in hearing officially may mean it isn't.
Treasure i don't think is as clean cut as you think Peter.
When i first saw it written i thought Baby's Nappys [image] (Treasures)
is a brand name in NZ,i think maybe in UK too.
Also i think the name is open to all sorts of pirate ,buried treasure sort of jokes.
Maybe the treasure that is meant is not pirate treasure but the irish pot of gold ;D

Hi Belinda,
I think that this response from the '3rd International Album' thread is also relevant here... ;D

Hi Andrew,

I searched for hidden treasure, and this is what I found :

"Do not lay up treasures on earth for yourselves, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.
But lay up treasures in Heaven for yourselves, where neither moth nor rust corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Mat 6:19-21 MKJV

Love, Marianne :) :D ;D :-*

Hi Marianne and everybody else,

Indeed the word "treasure" gives us a lot of food for thought!
Marianne, thank you for your reference to the scriptures (Mat 6:19-21). I agree whole heartedly! ;D I think Hayley was reflecting on the fear of the Lord as being the foundation and key to the treasure of salvation, wisdom and knowledge- with reference to:

(Isaiah 33 v 5-6).

"The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high;
he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness.
He will be the sure foundation for your times,
a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure."

Regards,

Andrew ;)

hello everyone, and thank you for the wonderful welcome Peter! I personally cannot wait for someone to confirm the name of Hayley's new album...how long do you think it would take?!?!?! If it is going to be released next month, surely news should be released soon about it. I guess we can only sit and wait!!

I've just checked this listing of 'Eternal' at amazon.com again, and I found a very interesting and intriguing product description:

"Recorded in Dublin, Ireland, Hayley's Third Solo Album is a Very Personal Collection of Classical Arias, Irish and Maori Folk Songs - Representing Treasured People and Places in her Remarkable Musical Journey. For the First Time the Album also Includes Several Original Tracks Written by Hayley Herself."

Not sure why each word is capitalised, though. ??? Could this possibly have been written by any person who thought it would be funny to include a form of the word 'Treasure'? I've just checked and saw that anyone can submit information to be changed or added to the product, so I suggested that they change the title of the album.

Hi Cathleen,

From what we have heard, that sounds like a very accurate description of Treasure. It has been suggested that 'Eternal' was a working title during the recording sessions, some of which were in Dublin. I guess that somehow evolved into 'Treasure'... only nobody told amazon! [image]

Hello Cathleen and Roger! [image]

We know that Hayley has recorded more songs than will appear on the first edition of her new album, so possibly 'Eternal' is the title of one of the unused tracks. That's my guess! ;D

Best Wishes,

Richard 8-)

Certainly Classicfm chart this Saturday morning were confused. They thought 'Eternal' applied to the whole CD but said there was controversy and they would advise once the actual title was known!

Something, i think, is 'up' and I think it is more on the lines I suggested earlier. Someone, perhaps a 'newbie' jumped the gun/broke the embargo convention.

When this happens in book publishing., there is no need for a race for everyone else to jump on the band waggon. They simply withold supplies--or delay them--to the entity that jumped the gun.

i've just had an idea...

take eternal

if you squash the 'l' so it became 's', flip the 'n' so it becomes 'u' and add an extra 'r' like you do...then you can write the letters: [e t e r (u) a (s) (r)]...were the changed letters are in brackets...

re-arrange this... you will get...treasure!!

i'll stop here . :-/

Yes indeed Peter,

I have just listened to my recording of this morning's Classic FM chart show and the presenter's exact words (it wasn't Mark Goodier) were, after playing Laudate Dominum:

Quote:
"Hayley Westenra, who's just putting the finishing touches to her latest... her forthcoming album, which we think might be called "Eternal"... there's all sorts of rumours swirling at the moment, we'll let you know when we have it confirmed."

You'd have thought Classic FM would have phoned Decca/UCJ or Bedlam Management to check it out. It sounds like they may be working from an earlier press release (or internet store listings) advising them that it was to be "Eternal" but have either seen the latest online store listings, or have been reading this or the official forum to raise their doubts.

It's a bit of a mess is this, and on Classic FM of all places! :o

Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,

I have just passed Mark Goodier's words to Steve Abbott and suggested that 'eternal confusion' won't help. I offered to email Classic FM but will only do so if Steve agrees.

Steve has replied. He has emailed Classic FM so, with any luck, they should be giving out correct information from now on. If anyone hears them mention 'Eternal' again, please let me know.

Thanks,
Roger

Roger

Yes indeed, Mark Forrest (who now does the Classic FM Chart shows) played Lascia Ch'io Pianga on Saturday's show then he said the following:

"Interesting that last week I played something from Hayley's CD Odyssey and mentioned at the time that rumours had been circulating surrounding the title of her forthcoming album. Well as luck would have it she was listening to the show at the time and I slightly got my information wrong... so she gave us a bell instantly to put me right, to say that the new album will be called Treasure and it's out on the 26th February. So if you are a Hayley fan, get your order in now..."

Nice to know our efforts bore fruit... even if (I suspect) Mark stretched the truth a little! ;)

Next time we see Hayley, perhaps we should ask her. [image]

Cheers, Dave

That;s two questions for who ever gets to her first. Did she ring Mark Forrest--but an example of a wonderful feeling for her if he did stretch a point, that's quite a complment. And, in Harrogate Christmas Presence, at the last song, was she wiggling her desire to dance?
