Poll: Where do you buy your Hayley music?
« Thread Started on Oct 13, 2009, 1:38am »

Please take this poll about how you typically obtain your Hayley music.

Ever since I got an iPod for Christmas I've been buying downloads of new music for it. It sure beats walking five blocks to the local music store and dealing with the unpleasant merchant who ceaselessly grumbles at the decline of business due to online shopping!

I'm wondering if more and more of us are skipping the stores in favour of the internet. Let us know in this poll. If your exact choice isn't among the options, please post your own method of shopping for Hayley's music.

I buy my Hayley CD's from online Japanese stores.

I never got into buying songs online...but it looks like it's how the industry is moving towards.

I wish I could go into a CD shop today and find just one of Hayley's CD's for sale. :-/

Best wishes Steve,
Joe :)

I voted for all of the above but lately I have bought most of my CDs online as they were not available in NZ. If they are in store then I prefer to buy CDs there. If it is only one song I want from an album then I will buy it from sites like iTunes.

I used to really enjoy going out and buying CD's from street stores, like HMV, or even Tesco's :o because it was fun to browse, find what I wanted, and keep browsing along the isles with my mates. Obviously, CD's that are not released in this country means I have to shop online overseas, but I have been put off the high street stores of late because of a rather rude encounter with a staff member, so its Amazon, Play.com and CDJapan (sparingly!) from now on I think!

For Hayley's music in particular, it was Amazon all the way! HMV didn't do a good selection, and none of what they had was below £12!!

Cheers

Ben

Hi Steve,

Interesting poll, I think though that you may get some people voting for the last section (all or some of the above) who, like me, buy like this:

1) CD in local shops if possible (most of them)
2) CD by mail from own Country's online store (if not in local shops)
3) CD by mail from anywhere in the World (if not available in own Country at reasonable price)
4) Digital download (if not available from anywhere on CD).

3) I try to avoid (I won't be getting WM from Japan for just one song which is bound to turn up eventually on some other Japanese CD!).

4) is very much a last resort for me. I have done it but I like to have something I can see, hold and put in a rack. If I ever get an iPod type device, I will copy from CD to iPod type of device (which wouldn't be an actual iPod, it would be some kind of combined device).

Hi Steve
In my case, nearly always cd's from an online retailer such as HMV UK. The reason being that you get the best prices.

At the moment I prefer a cd as opposed to an online download simply because I have an in-car cd player and I haven't yet invested in the technology to allow me to plug in my ipod. But that will come!

Cheers

Hi Steve

I've voted No.2 CD's on line as I find this the most practical. Like Martin, I look for the best commercial option and also because I like to have something tangible to hold and play.

I also find buying on line useful because it's possible to pre-order and forget about it until the release date. As a collector, a large percentage of what I collect would not usually be available in store such as promo's and regional releases so many of these will come from somewhere like Ebay.

I did buy Hayley's itunes festival downloads but only because that was the only way to get them. I cannot ever see myself owning an ipod! ::)

Best wishes
Grant

Online CDs.

You may receive them a day or two later (if shipped from the Channel Islands) but it is better than going to the supermarket and finding that they have not ordered enough. (Unless there is going to be an in-store signing. Was it ASDA in Cardiff?)

Well, I don't usually download stuff. I buy overseas albums online, and have bought Hayley's music from Japan, USA (Celtic Woman) and NZ.

I usually buy UK releases locally, since I want to encourage my local shops to stock Hayley's music. With ROD I made the mistake of pre-ordering it online, thinking I would get it earlier than my next visit to the shops, only to see it in my local ASDA before it arrived. I now have an extra copy, so I won't be doing that again.

I try to buy from stores cos it's immediate and I can listen to it once I get home, but the stores here tend not to keep the slightly older ones in stock for very long, so I've had to visit many different cd shops (which are getting far and few between :-/ ) On the plus side, the cd shops here do have the HSJS albums for pretty decent prices! About £8.

If I can't find them, I use Amazon US or Amazon UK. Unfortunately, some of them (Amazon US) are from independent sellers and so don't ship to Singapore, so I've had to ship them to a friend studying in the States, who'll eventually bring them back for me. (Even if they do ship to Singapore, it's REALLY expensive)

As for iTunes or Amazon mp3 downloads, they're not available in Singapore ):

Haha I don't think this thread is even still alive. Oh well.

cheers,
joanne

In that case, i'll have my say as well [image]

I buy most of my CDs from Amazon, mostly second hand via Amazon marketplace. It works out as very good value (especially when you can sometimes get CDs for 1p, plus the obligatory £1.24 postage [image]

The only music store here in Basingstoke is absolutely useless as it only has a very small section devoted to my sorts of music (I think I found Hayley's "Treasure" album but that was about it)

I can't abide downloading music at all, I find the quality is poor, especially when listening on a decent hifi system, so that is out of the question. Plus I like buying a physical copy, which also it means I have less to back up on the PC. Although I do use my PC for music, I store them as .wav uncompressed files (which take up huge amounts of space)

If any of Hayley's albums were released on Vinyl, I'll be in there like a shot ;D

I buy all of my CDs online. But they are CDs - I like to have the physical albums.

I do like visiting a music store and going through all the shelves, but there's no music store in my town - I have to travel 10 miles, and when I do, it's a HMV that likes to charge up to £17.99 for their CDs which I have no interest in paying. And the selection is mediocre. My last visit to HMV saw one copy of Treasure in the classical section.
