I was on it in the mid sixties I think, I remember it was probably the most expensive ride on the prom at the time, One and ninepence, I think. As kids we were allowed two shillings a day, and had to decide how to spend it ourselves, The big dipper only left you with thruppence for the rest of the day, which meant a day of swimming and playing on the beach (Which was free). I do remember the roller skate rink though, only about sixpence an hour, and the bonus for me the harvest of ball bearings all around the rink which came out of the wheels of the cheap old type four wheel skates with the red plastic straps. I got an Eclipse horseshoe magnet and just went around the edge of the rink with it just above the ground, They would cluster on the magnet like frog spawn or caviar, I would just fill my pockets with them until the trousers were hanging off me. Oh the simple joys of childhood

Oh the simple joys of childhood Memories memories memories! But it is good to retain the childikeness at heart. That's how I describe myself on Twitter: ancient and creeky but still young at heart! We must watch going off topic but Grant is/was visiting Liverpool for the change of trams. Much investment in evidence and worth bearing in mind for the future. If Grant wants to comment I suggest he starts a new thread or we will really upset Richard! Peter S.

Peter S Hi Comet and Peter It was actually Blackpool, not Liverpool, that I visited Peter i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Great changes going on there. Just like in the 1930's when Walter Luff (the then GM of Blackpool Tramways) introduced his fleet of state of the art double and single deck bogie cars - many of which are still running today - Blackpool will be a world leader again when it launches its brand new fleet of modern cars at Easter next year. The times, they are certainly a'changin'. I haven't visited the Pleasure Beach since they started charging admission to enter the park so I don't know if the "Big Dipper" is still operational. There was also the "Grand National" and the "Wild Mouse" both of these were/are of wooden construction, although I know the Wild Mouse has gone. Best wishes Grant

I've been interacting with a Liverpudlian except that that term is a 60s invention. The correct term since Victorian times is Liverpolitan--a 'pool' isn't a 'puddle' to those who were born there, especially as they regard it as the 2nd city after London. Correction accepted Grant. I think apologies are due to Richard but to move this interaction rationally to 'Off topic' requires a mod... but then it was a mod that got us going off topic originally (not sneaking on you Dave, just observing!) I never went to Blackpool as a child, but I remember Skegness, and its "Figure eighter" which was one of two large roller coasters at the resort. Skegness actually had the first roller coaster ever in the UK.

Hello Peter! I've moved the three off-topic posts about roller coasters from the Paradiso US Release thread. Richard Hi Richard. Thought you would. Didn't mean to cause you hassle and it was a rather fun interaction but it needed a mod to move it intelligently. Peter S.

I had a funny day at work today. It started as I travelled to work in my car. As I waited at an intersection a young lady on a scooter braked as the traffic lights changed but she lost control and crashed. luckily she got up but I think she was very sore. Then later at work as we had afternoon break we noticed smoke in a pit next door and I had to ring the Fire Department. Interesting break as we watched a fire truck arrive to put the fire out. Apparently some kids had started the fire.
