Interesting comments! Hayley has just taken about 6 months off touring ANYWHERE. She did nothing in the UK appearance wise at all since before last Christmas until nearly July. I don't know if or how this has affected her popularity here, the only show I've been to this year looked mostly sold out.
All of this can be reversed of course. There was a long lull between Pure and Odyssey, yet she came back. Her real fans don't forget her.
And remember it is hard work maintaining popularity worldwide. It takes a huge publicity machine that Hayley simply does not have. And perhaps she is happy with that.
I don't know, but all the signs are that Hayley does what she does because she loves making music and performing. Unlike some others, her primary motivation I suspect is not fame and fortune, but just to be able to earn a living doing what she loves, and to bring a little joy into people's lives.
The fact that some of the worlds greatest living composers are keen to work with Hayley I think points to her being a musician's musician. She is perhaps too good for the mass market anyway, and perhaps that is the reason she is not more heavily promoted.

I think we're going way off topic here BUT I think you've hit the nail on the head. I don't think it's ever been about the money for Hayley and I believe she's said as much in the past. The other side of the coin relates to Nicola's comment about her being a private person - I don't think this is just about keeping her private life out of the media - but as much to enable her to live a normal life when she is going about her day to day routines at home. That said, we do have to keep Hayley in the limelight as far as performances and record sales are concerned, so I'm going to copy my post to a more appropriate place Best wishes Grant

Hi everyone, As Grant pointed out, the last seven posts above are way off topic for this thread so any further follow-up should be in another more appropriate thread and not in this Twitter thread. Thanks! Grant copied his post to hereDave

Maya, do you think there will be any more HSJS albums in the future? Hi Libby. This is just my opinion but I don't think there would be HSJS albums in the very near future. Below are the reasons why I think so. But I hope you don't blame me since these are the facts here in Japan. 1, HSJS2 was not sold well compared with HSJS. 2, Hayley's concert tickets were not sold out at most of the cities in 2009. 3, Hayley does not have any plan to come to Japan this year. 4, There was no her TV appearance at all this year. 5, I seldom hear her voice over the radio these days. 6, Winter Magic Japanese edition was not a big success. I must say her popularity here is dropping. Most of the record companies in Japan are now under the control of big American capitals and they tend to invest money to those who earn big money only and the competition is tougher. It seems to me that Universal Record Japan is not considering Hayley as a big money maker as she used to be and does not promote her more. She or her management team puts the emphasis on UK dedicating RAF and others and this makes her busier inside of UK reducing her activity outside. With these situations, her popularity in her home land NZ is also dropping, I hear. The more she works in UK, the more she looses her popularity outside, I worry. Best wishes. Maya Hi Maya, Very interesting observation. I'm wondering what Hayley's plans are. I don't share the opinion with some of the forum members that Hayley is not interested in money. In my opinion, and I've been wrong before, I think Hayley is trying to hit a home run with this new recording. I still think she is trying to crack the huge U S market. Larry

That's understandable, Maya. Of course nobody blames you. But she is going to Japan next June isn't she? But that's to promote her Ennio Morricone album, I'm sure.
If only she could tour in NZ again sometime. It's been over 2 years since she did a tour there.
Since Hayley called her tour for next year an "international tour" (almost calling it a world tour, remember), I would think that would include Europe, NZ, & Australia, and maybe a few places in Canada and the U.S.
Oh, and remember what she said in an article recently about someday focusing her career more in the U.S.
Yes, Spiderman, you could be right about all the versions of her albums. Only her really devoted fans buy them. When people first discover her, they usually start out with 1 album, and if they really like her, they'll buy more. I'm happy if the U.S. fans just buy the U.S. versions, as long as they are buying her albums, that's fine with me. There are fans on the Josh Groban forum who said they had one album or another, but they didn't even know about her newer ones because they weren't paying as much attention as we do. Of course I told them about all her albums. I didn't even know about Treasure until less than a month before it's release date, because I wasn't keeping up to date on everything Hayley like I do now. Actually, I did the same thing with Odyssey too; I looked her up again in September, not long before it was released.

... I think Hayley is trying to hit a home run with this new recording. I still think she is trying to crack the huge U S market. ... One of the best ways to do this is to "go country". Hayley has an unmistakably appealing country-ish voice when she sings certain songs. Yeah, it's a stretch from what made her famous the first time, but ya never know. If she doesn't go there, someone else certainly will, and many of you would be flabbergasted to learn who that someone is. (hint: " Cold California")

Yes, now we don't have to wonder anymore. We now know for sure that she's written something for her new album. I didn't have much doubt that she would.

Hopefully next year x Dave
