Wednesday, 23 May 2012, 3:27pm Press Release: Court Theatre
From Hobbits to hip-hop stars, a range of international celebrities have come to aid The Court Theatre’s fundraising drive.
To assist in replacing numerous assets lost when the Christchurch theatre company was forced to leave its Arts Centre venue following the 22 February 2011 earthquake, a range of items have been donated for an online auction on TradeMe that will be running from 24 – 30 May.
Beyoncé, Stephen Fry, Orlando Bloom and Court Theatre Fundraising Patron Dame Maggie Smith, as well as locals Hayley Westenra, Sir Peter Jackson and Mark Hadlow, have offered items to the fundraising appeal – from signed posters, prints and scripts to CDs, jewellery and DVDs.
Court Theatre Chief Executive Philip Aldridge says “the ongoing support from the artistic community has been overwhelming – we continue to get phone calls, emails and messages asking ‘how can I help?’. We hope this auction will help The Court’s continued recovery alongside the city.”
Last year The Court constructed a $4.6million theatre inside an old grain store in Addington, following an intense fundraising campaign and 112-day build. Although the company opened the new space and resumed performances to great public acclaim, insurance negotiations are yet to resolve replacing items essential to the theatre’s continued survival. As Aldridge puts it: “we have built a theatre – now we need to kit it out.”
A link to the various items and TradeMe auctions can be found on The Court Theatre’s website, www.courttheatre.org.nz, from 9am Thursday 24 May.
All auctions run from 9am Thursday 24 May until 8pm 30 May NZ time.

I've had that experience before too, where I feel my heart beating, even feeling the pulse in my head, and I almost wonder if there is an earthquake, but it never was. Where Hayley is, you just never know, though, it could be. Well, it could easily happen here, too, but we haven't had one in some time, at least nothing big enough to feel.
Sneaked into a 48hr film festival screening (shhh).... Woah. Blown away. #kiwipride
Richard
The 48 hour festival involves teams making a short movie in 48 hours and I think they have to use a particular line in the movie or a certain prop. So Hayley must have seen the final films.
The Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre was named by its founder, singer and songwriter Hinewehi Mohi, after her daughter, Hineraukatauri.
The name Raukatauri comes from the legend of Hine Raukatauri, the Goddess of Flutes, who is the personification of Music. In Maori legend, Hine Raukatauri is the casemoth who lives in her elongated cocoon that hangs from many native trees. Maori make a unique flute, the putorino, in the shape of the casemoth's home.
The male casemoth pupates and flies away, but the female remains in her case. At night as the breeze blows through the cocoon, the call of the female moth to her lover is heard as a sweet but barely audible sound. This has been the inspiration for all Maori flute music.
When Hinewehi Mohi came to name her daughter, who has severe cerebral palsy, she was reminded of the goddess trapped in her case - just as her daughter is trapped in her body, incapable of much independent movement. Music, as in the legend, has been the means of communication between mother and daughter. And Hineraukatauri has found a way to express herself through music therapy, at the Centre named after her and the ancestress Raukatauri.

Hey, going back to the Court Theatre subject... Hayley was mentioned in this article on the main Tolkien/Weta news website, TheOneRing.Net! Of course, it's mostly about Peter Jackson, Elijah Wood, Steven Fry, and Orlando Bloom, but I thought it was nice that they mentioned Hayley, too!

Very quiet on Twitter today. I wouldn't be surprised if Hayley suddenly turned up in London. She has done it before. At least there is some sunny weather to greet her.
